Imathia has successfully completed the refurbishment of 26.8 km of the Kampala- Namanve-Mukono railway line, delivered for Uganda Railways Corporation. The project marks a milestone in the modernisation of Uganda’s railway network and strengthens Imathia’s presence in the African rail market.
The project is a pioneering development in Uganda as the first of its kind to incorporate concrete sleepers, manufactured locally through the establishment of a dedicated production plant in Kampala-Namanve. This approach has combined industrial capacity, railway expertise and innovation with strong integration of local resources.
As part of this innovative component, Imathia has developed and patented a dedicated anti-vandal rail fishplate system, designed to improve the protection and durability of track components under the specific local operating conditions.
Another key feature of the project has been the integration of local labour, with particularly strong participation by women. The project has therefore generated an impact beyond the infrastructure itself, contributing to skills development, employment and knowledge transfer in Uganda.
With this project, Imathia adds a new international reference and reaffirms its ability to deliver comprehensive, innovative railway solutions tailored to the needs of each country, combining engineering, construction, local production and technological development.
