IMATHIA Construcción, in a joint venture with Aldesa, has completed the new Fuencarral II high-speed train maintenance workshop and the stabling yard for self propelled rolling stock at the Madrid Norte railway complex, one of RENFE’s most significant projects to strengthen its railway maintenance capabilities.
One of the project’s key elements is the new building for high-speed train maintenance, with a main floor area of approximately 18,700 m², together with new stabling sidings and a substantial set of switches and crossings required to organise railway routes within the complex.
The Fuencarral II facilities now form part of RENFE’s strategy to modernise its maintenance depots. The new workshop building has five 400-metre tracks, eight inspection pits and three overhead travelling cranes, while the self-propelled rolling stock stabling yard provides 20 stabling positions for 100-metre trains, together with the tracks and access routes needed to facilitate shunting and railway operations.
IMATHIA’s participation in Fuencarral II is a particularly significant reference within our experience in railway infrastructure, track superstructure and maintenance, combining construction capability with technical specialisation at one of Madrid’s main railway complexes.
